I really thought this last week wouldn't have as many doctors appointments as last month, and I guess we really didn't. But they all seem so overwhelming.
Monday morning he started with a PET scan. We didn't know what that meant, but most of the scans he has had thus far lasted about 30 minutes, Not this one. He was suppose to go fasting from midnight on. He was scheduled for 7:45--we thought. Well, when he completed the scan at 11:30 we were surprised. He even had to sit in a quite room for 1.5 hours, No TV, computer, phone, book or anything to stimulate the brain. They gave him a warm blanket and said he could sleep if he wanted. Since he hadn't slept well the night before, he was glad for the rest.
But the good news from that is there wasn't any other cancer detected. Hooray!
He is appointment with Dr. Clark was a review of the plan and a review of the PET scan. Then they took him to prep him for Monday. He got 3 small tattoo's. Yes, you read it right. He is now wearing 3 small tattoo's on his hip area. That is so that the radiation treatments will be done in the exact same place every time. He says that people always thought is was rebel and not he can prove it. He still has his sense of humor.
We actually skipped the Dr. on Tuesday. Crazy right. One day off.
On Wednesday, we met with the surgeon. That felt like a new slap in the face. The reality of it all just seems so hard. Bryan and I had hoped we could have the surgery by the end of the year, but Dr. Cook
so no. He said that would be too soon. He wants to wait until after the 1st of the year. Won't really matter. I am sure we will meet out deductible both years anyway. He said that the body needs that much time to heal from the chemo and radiation treatments. If there is any infection, it is hard for the body to fight when it is working so hard with the chemo. Dr. Cook said the surgery is really hard on the body. Dr. Cook said to plan 5-10 days in the hospital and then 6-8 weeks recovery. That is a long time in the hospital. The stay is determined by the amount of reconstruction that has to be done.
So, the process continues. The good news is it will finally start. Bryan starts his chemo ($4000 a prescription) tomorrow and then the radiation on Monday afternoon. Keep him in your prayers.

If I wasn't exhausted before...I am now! All those Dr's appts and waiting and new news and thinking about planning for unexpected and such. You guys are amazing! Thinking of you all the time. That's some chemo...pretty pricey! Maybe Bryan can call Gracie when he takes his chemo and they can be chemo pals. Starting January she takes it every day for about 18 months. They actually do have chemo pals at the clinic but we never got one for Gracie I guess we were just waiting for the right one:) Wishing you lots of blessings and sending love and prayers.
